I’m Mark Lyons, Chief Architect at the Department for Transport (DfT) since September 2017. I’m responsible for leading the programme to develop, maintain and govern architecture across the DfT. I make sure our technology meets the objectives listed in DfT’s Single Departmental Plan.
I joined DfT from one of the largest Housing Associations in the UK, where I headed up an architecture function. You wouldn’t believe the confusion this caused – I had so many calls from suppliers trying to sell me building material. Before that, I worked in utilities, professional services and had a 10 year stint working for BAA.
When people ask what I do, the conversation goes a bit like this… I’m an architect. Wow, you design buildings. No. So, you make those amazing building models. No. Oh. I model digital technologies.
